What does it mean to be lutheran?

Most churches are a part of some type of denomination or network of churches.

St. John's is aligned with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  We invite you to go online at lcms.org to find out more information on Lutheran Beliefs and Practices FAQs.  The beauty of our Lutheran beliefs is that you are able to either "swim in the deep end" or "wade in the shallow end" of the pool.  Martin Luther summarizes the essence of what we believe by using the following three phrases:

GRACE ALONE: We are recipients of God's undeserved love (Ephesians 2:8-9).

FAITH ALONE: We trust that in Jesus our sins are forgiven and that God's Spirit now fills us.

SCRIPTURE ALONE: we look to the Bible as the sole authority in determining what we believe

and how we live as Christians (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
